Miltner Reed: Attorneys In Business for You
Why don’t people like lawyers? Maybe because lawyers have a reputation for being difficult. Maybe because they seem more interested in problems than solutions. Maybe unpredictable fees are the issue. Maybe responsiveness is a foreign concept.
That's where we come in.
We partner with businesses and people who want to build a long-term relationship with attorneys who can give them personal attention when they need it. We offer our services on a project-by-project basis. Each relationship starts with a no-obligation call to make sure we are a good fit for each other. We'll work together to define the scope of your legal needs, put a plan together, and agree on a fixed fee. Whether your project is a simple contract review, building an effective estate plan, starting a new business, or helping negotiate the deal that will transform your company, Miltner Reed LLC is ready to guide you.
For those companies ready for a legal partner, we provide proactive outside general counsel services too. Choose the best fit for your business and experience predictable flat fee agreements with our firm.
You deserve an attorney-client relationship that actually feels like a relationship. Nothing makes us happier than to help our clients create and grow their businesses, protect what they have built, and guide them through the challenges along the way.
How Does Miltner Reed Help Their Clients Succeed?
"Our company needed a legal expert to help us manage our risks. We needed advice on our contracts, non-competes, and various other documents companies like us use in everyday business. We were very impressed with how Kristine took the time to research our industry, review previous cases related to our potential circumstances, and advise us how to reduce our risks and liabilities, which in turn increased our bottom line. This firm really takes the extra time to make sure they not only met our expectations but exceeded them. We look forward to many years of future partnership."

How We Help
Maya Angelou said that "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.” Your road to success in business can get bumpy. Challenges arise and risks appear, and you need help navigating through them. We stand ready and willing to help you evaluate those bumps, choose the way around (or over), and get back to the open road of success.
Whether your business is a start-up, consistently grosses a billion dollars a year, or somewhere in between (we represent businesses across this spectrum), we care about your personal and professional success.
As for us? We like what we do when we can help you succeed.
And liking yourself is a lot easier without stressful distractions and uncertainty. Whether you are a business owner, farmer, have a family, or are single, we would love to help with your estate plan.
General Counsel Services
General Counsel services serve businesses that recognize their ongoing need for an attorney but aren't able to hire a full time chief legal officer. We can customize a monthly subscription to meet your needs, from monthly consultations and board presentations to document review.
Example: You need someone to serve your business as your chief legal officer and can be in regular contact on an ongoing basis. We will conduct periodic business reviews and advise your board of directors.
When you have a more involved situation (like a contract dispute) or longer process (negotiating a sale, acquiring or dissolving a business), you need a project-based service. This provides you with representation without the long-term financial commitment.
Example: You’re considering a longer term lease, and you’re entering into negotiations that could take 60-90 days. We can consult with you multiple times and prepare and revise all documents.
Limited Scope Services
When you have a quick question, need some advice, don't understand a legal document, or need a simple contract or agreement, our on-demand services are perfect. They cover basic legal needs that we can wrap up in an hour or two.
Example: You’ve been sent a document to sign, but you aren’t sure it covers what you need it to cover. We can review the document for you, call and explain what it means to sign it, and advise on your options.
Estate Planning Services
Estate planning is an essential part of managing your family's future. Protect what you've built - don’t wait to put together your will, trust and other important documents. Miltner Reed brings a locally informed perspective and personable touch to your estate planning.
Example: You operate an agribusiness and need advice regarding transitioning your operation to the next generation. We can provide strategies that both protect what you have worked so hard to build, and ensure a smooth transition of the operation and your real estate to your children, often without any probate court involvement needed.
Example: We recognize that there is no longer a “typical” family structures. Blended families, same-sex couples, and grandparents raising grandchildren are more common than ever. While dying without a Will may result in unforeseen consequences that are not in line with your goals, unintended consequences are far more common with these family structures. We can develop a plan for you that fully protects all those that you love.

Who We Are
Miltner Reed LLC is a modern legal practice that provides counsel and legal guidance to businesses large and small, as well as estate planning guidance to businesses owners, farmers, families and individuals. Based in Ohio, the team assists business owners from startups to mature businesses, with substantial experience handling contract negotiations, financing, complex projects and ventures, dispute resolutions, and general legal guidance.
Ryan Miltner and Kristine Reed serve their clients as trusted legal partners who are as passionate about achieving business success as they are.
Kristine Reed enjoys practicing in a small firm setting and having the opportunity to build lasting relationships with clients. Priding herself on being down-to-earth and approachable, Kristine wants every client to have a great experience and to feel at ease in her office. The clock is not as important to her as really understanding the needs and goals of her clients, and that understanding keeps clients coming back and bringing friends and family with them.
When she’s not wearing her lawyer hat, Kristine and her high-school-sweetheart husband, Mike, enjoy spending time with their teenage children, Andrew and Lauren. They enjoy family road trips, finding the best beaches, cheering on Ohio State football, and the occasional guilty pleasure of binge-watching the latest Netflix original while eating too much pizza.
You might also find Kristine at a local or not-so-local 5K, 10K, triathlon or half-marathon, either running by herself, with friends and family, or with recovering addicts as part of her favorite volunteer program that focuses on the importance of health and fitness in addiction recovery.
Kristine received her undergraduate degree from Miami University and earned her law degree at Ohio Northern University. She has enjoyed practicing law for more than 20 years, plans to stick around for a few more, and is licensed in Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia.
Ryan Miltner likes to think of practicing law as an opportunity to help clients solve problems and understand and manage risks. Most importantly, he genuinely enjoys helping people grow successful companies.
“Too often, practicing law means dealing with people in conflict and stress. As a lawyer, it’s difficult to avoid those situations all together. But we’ve chosen to place our focus on working with clients that want our help in finding a way to build something great.”
Ryan represents businesses of all sizes and across multiple industries, including considerable experience representing clients in the food and agriculture industry.
On any given day, he might be working from one of Miltner Reed’s two offices, at a client’s place of business, or somewhere else on the road. But home is in New Knoxville, Ohio with his wife, two amazing kids, and one almost-as-amazing black labrador. Ryan enjoys hiking Ohio (or wherever else he might happen to be), running with friends, most any music in the rock genre, and seeking out a great cup of coffee.
A lifelong Ohioan, he earned his undergraduate degree in finance from The University of Toledo College of Business Administration and his law degree from Cleveland State University. He is licensed in Ohio and Michigan.
